my sister is 37 weeks going to be 38 weeks on thursday! we are sooo excited. but my question is..yesterday she called me and said that she thought her water broke and she was having some servere to moderate contractions (not regular, some were every 4 min and some where 30-40 mins apart), so i picked her up and took her to the hospital..any way it ended up that is was her mucus plug coming out and they tested her for any water leakage and none:( lol. they checked her cervix and she was like 1 1/2cm. the nurse said it still could be awhile, but i wanted to know from ur experiences how long to u think it'll be??

Well, after the plug falls out it could be anywhere from a day to a few weeks. There is no time line for labor. Sorry to tell you, but you never know. The fact that she has lost her plug and is starting to dilate says she is on her way, but it could still be weeks before she goes into labor, or it could be within the next hour. Even doctors don't know.

With my first, my water broke at 36 weeks. She was born 9 hours later. She was a preemie and had to be in the hospital for almost a month. She's fine now. My second, I had contractions for 2 weeks straight. They would start and stop and weren't consistant at all. I was induced at 38 weeks because I was dilated to a 5 and 80% effaced. My water never broke until my doctor broke it, and she was born 5 hours after I was admitted for induction. I'm pregnant now, so we will see what happens with this one. Each one is different.

I've seen women who I could have sworn wouldn't go into labor for weeks, but later that night I would get called to the hospital with them in active labor. I've also had the opposite, where I thought for sure they would go that day, but 2 weeks later, I would have them induced. It's really hard to tell, even for us professionals. The baby decides most of the time. We never know when they will choose to make their entrance. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!!!!

Still could be a couple more weeks. I went 2 weeks after I lost my plug. Best of luck.

I was due on May 15th. On May 3rd at my check I was 1cm and my plug was still there. Labor started at 11pm on the 4 and at 6am on the 5th my son was born. The doctor barely had time to put on her gloves.
