Follow up with your photo-postcard every few months to every casting director on your mailing list.
The Casting Director will call you if they need your type.
This morning and evening, I saw a film crew shooting close to Mott Street - Chinatown.

Join the movie extras union....there IS one. Also check out the biz papers for open calls for extras....send resume and short note to production cos. Sometimes there's a little pay, or carfare, and usually food....but that's about it...maybe it'll lead to a line or two...maybe you'll get noticed....at least there'll be fun conversations....
