because michigan under tommy amaker is the most mentally weak team i have seen in forever...they should have been a tournament team the past three years based on talent alone, but they lose games they should win and just don't show up to play every game like they should, then when they are just about out of the tourney they turn it on and give everybody a good run before selection sunday when the committee puts them where they have belonged the past few years: the nit

you should blame the previous years when they were good because they got that way by breaking the NCAA rules- now they are paying for it by having a tougher time recruiting players under a weak head coach.....
you have to let other conferences in because they are in the same division and need to play for something....
Michigan will be back on top eventually... everyone in the Big 10 seems to take turns at the top

lol, they should be thankful that the NIT is desperate for teams and asks them to take their annual 1 and done.
beat rpi bottom 200 teams, play no one in non-conference and get drilled by any decent team. The story of michigan basketball.

the answer is strength of schedule. they had a weak non-conference schedule this year and they're going to pay for it.
