Hi, we just switched from Similac Adv. to Isomil Adv. The doc also had us using Mylicon w/each feeding. My son has been on Isomil for just 4 days and he still seems to be spitting up. It seems to be only during the daytime that he has gassy/spit up problems - not at night or while sleeping (before on the Similac Adv, he would spit up at night a lot and it would come out of his nose). How long should I give formulas to take before switching? I don't want to switch too much or too fast. Has anyone else experienced formula coming out of the nose? (This has only happened a few times, but it freaks him out!)

Keep in touch with your pediatrician on this but don't feel he definitely needs a diagnosis for something. Sometimes it's just something they go through. I remember being so scared when my son did this and I wonder now if it was because he just had too much in his belly. I don't know how much you are feeding him but could you maybe give him a little less in each bottle and then feed him more often? I also gave my son the gas drops and they may have helped a little but I found them to work more for the gassy belly/farting end of things than the spitting up part. It's hard to not worry but he may just outgrow it as his digestive system grows. I'd say that my son stopped doing that after a couple of months (he's 7 1/2 months now so I remember that time clearly!) so hold tight and don't go crazy switching formulas trying to fix something that may just go away on it's own. Like I said though, it's always best to keep your pediatrician in the loop in case they think something else is to blame. Good luck!

Maybe it isn't the formula, but that he might have reflux.

My first baby changed formulas several times, before the doctors realised that he was a reflux baby.

It didn't matter what milk he was fed, he used to vomit.

It meant a whole lot more washing than I had ever experienced, but he did eventually grow out of it at around 12-14months. He is now 4.

Hang in there, it will pass! Our second son wasn't a reflux baby, so it doesn't mean all your children will have it.

maybe you could try enfamil gentle ease formula, its especially for gassy, fussy babies. Mylicon didn't work for us, our doctor prescribed qualitest drops (prescription only) I guess its just more hard core than regular gas drops because it works good! This could also be acid reflux, talk about to the ped.

I mostly breastfeed and the whole milk out the nose thing happened with my daughter too, its just because there system is still trying to figure out where everything is supposed to go! he should be able to keep stuff down better by 2 or 3 months!

babies spit up alot any ways that's how they get rid of gas. but if u think he's spitting up more than he should be then u could take him to the doctor. and sometimes babies spit ALOT up at once and stufff but it's not like he's ever gotton jus stop spitting in a few days. he will get use to the formula but not stop spitting. maybe what u mean is he's spitting more than he should be then he'll eventually not be spitting as often. but he probably wont really stop till he's quite a bit older really.
now from what ur saying i would think he is a LOT better off with the new formula cuz i would be REALLY WOORIED if he was spitting formula out of his nose AT NITE!!! what if something happens to him? i would not wanna have to go through that.

i wouldn't be to worried about it but if u really are i would check with the doc. to be safe.

yeah i got 2 girls under 2 and both of them did that, i think its because they dont know how to control the whole reflex of spitting up. I went thru the same thing with them and I noticed that when I used less formula than what was recommended, the spitting up died down. Like i would give 2 ounces of water but only 1/2 to 3/4 scoop instead of a whole scoop of formula. Only bad thing about that is they tend to get hungrier quicker, but I'd say feed less but more often! it paid off for me.

My baby does the same thing and he has acid reflux. His Dr. put him on prevacid for it. DO NOT mix cereal with the formula without your Dr. telling you to. It could be dangerous especially at your babys age. No matter what I do my baby still spits up im still waiting for further instruction from my Dr. He also has it come out of his nose sometimes. The Dr says its just part of the condition. Good luck!

My daughter had the formula come out her nose but that was due to her Cleft Palate(she has no uvula-that hangy ball in yer throat). As for your baby I dunno if that is the case but I would just check to be sure.Other than that just be patient.
