Err, for over a year now I'm having this yellow discharge in my underwear, and I've been noticing for the past few months that it smells (not terribly bad, but it has an odor to it). My mom keeps saying that I'm not wiping myself good enough (and she is noticing that I smell a little bit), but as I was looking through the boards, I guess it's a yeast infection. Is it normal for a 12 year old (almost 13) to have a yeast infection ???

I've been smelling this odor on me even on the days that I don't have my period, and I think it's coming from the yellow stuff in my underwear. I even put clear deodorant on my pants to make it go away, but within a few hours the odor is back. I shower every single morning, and I don't sweat too much either. I try hard not to smell. -_-

So should I tell my doctor about this ? And is it okay if a 12 year old to have a yeast infection (if it is one) ???

WELL THE 1st THING IS YOU ARE ADDING TO THE PROBABLE BY PUTTING DEODORANT IN YOU PANTIES,THAT WILL CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A YEAST INFECTION.YES YOU CAN HAVE ONE AT 12,IT MAY BE YOU CHANGE YOUR EATING HABITS,OR BECAUSE YOU WIPING YOUR SELF THE WRONG WAY.WIPE FRONT TO BACK AND IT WILL CAUSE LESS BACTERIA,LESS INFECTIONS.AND FOR THE SMELL THE HAVE FEMALE BODY WASH AND SPRAY FOR THE PERSONAL AREA.YOU COULD ALSO TRY EATING A YOGURT A DAY IT HELPS WITH Y INFECTIONS,AND DRINK LOST OF WATER.AND YES TELL YOU DOC,SHE/HE CAN GIVE YOU MEDS IF YOU NEED THEM.HOPE SOME OF THIS HELPS YOU.P.S BUT YOU REALLY NEED FOR YOU MOM TO TAKE YOU TO THE DOCTOR IT COULD BE MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK A GIRL YOUR AGE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BODY ODOR DOWN THEIR.

if you are very worried go to your doctor and they will check it out /give you advice, it isnt uncommon for young girls to have this because of all your hormones changing etc, or like you said, yeast infections. most women get some sort of discharge but it usually doesnt smell, best not to use deodorant in that area either as it isnt meant for 'down there'!!! have you tried wearing pant liners? if you are worried about smells you can get special deodorants/ soaps/ sprays from the chemist made exactly for that problem, but i think you would be better off seeing your doc just to put your mind at ease. dont be embarassed, they have dealt with much worse problems, trust me!!! at least then you wont be worried and you will get the problem sorted.

Sounds as though you have a infection, with a yeast infection, you are typically going to have the itch that goes along with it. You definitely need to go to the gyn, for a full exam....if you have not yet been to the gyn......it is a real treat, but we all have to do. She or he, will take some samples to see if they can find out the cause of it and then prescribe the appropriate antibiotic.

Any colored discharge in your underwear is not normal. It is evidence of some kind of vaginal infection. Only your Dr can help you to get rid of both the discharge and the smell. The reason you can't get rid of the smell, is that it is coming from inside of you. Using deoderant or any non-water soluable lotion in your vaginal area can in iitself promote infection. If you do not treat your infection, it can get worse.
Don't worry about your age, and certainly don't wait. Tell your Dr. this week, and they will likely test the discharge to see that your particular infection is correctly treated.

definitely talk to a doctor. a girl of your age shouldn't have to worry about things like this, especially odors when you are already going through puberty, etc. it might be a different infection too- one that could really do some damage to your reproductive system, especially if it lasts for a year like that.
