Coronabat is exactly right. True Americans are the Indians. We have tried so hard to make it appear that our country was NOT a country until Columbus and those who followed.
It is only recently that history books have been rewritten to tell the truth. The Indians were simply in the way with the arrival of the Europeans. The selective unwarranted massacre of the Indians is still one of the saddest events in history.

Everyone assumes that they are American when in fact they are not. We are all Americans by right of Citizenship. The only true Americans are the American Indians. Read the history books on how we arrived here. We all are derived from every color, breed and national origin. "The Melting Pot" says it all. History don't lie.

I was in the Athens airport terminal and ahead of me, in the queue ,was the typical American tourist. He was tall, like an old time gun slinger, because he wore a huge cowboy hat.Being outspoken(big mouthed) I was commenting loudly about what Americans had done to their native Americans.
His wife turned around and explained that he was Greek and she was American. They had got married in New York and were honeymooning on a tiny Greek island. The very same island we were heading for.We kept bumping into each other for the complete holiday.I have never met nicer people.
I assumed and was wrong. I am not American. There is no such thing as a typical American,English,Irish,Polish,French etc ,etc.

Because we're in America when we assume it. If I went to Italy, I'd assume everyone I met was from Italy until I was told otherwise. It's not necessarily unwise or unwarrented to believe that the people in the country you're in are from that country!
