I think my hamster has pinkeye, Anybody know what to do? He does not have anithing in his eye, that only reason i think he has pinkeye is because one of his eyes doesnt open when he wakes up, then after hes being awake for 2 minutes it opens up[Just 1 eye]. Do you think this is pinkeye or just an allergic reaction to Aspen bedding?, i plan on getting him Care fresh bedding tommorow. If i get him Care fresh will this just go away? or do i have to buy some medications and put them in his eye? Hope fully when i buy him carefresh it will go away[Crosses fingers], but i will buy him something to put in his eye if neccesery, Hes a campbells dwarf russian hamster, Im not sure how old he is. but hes almost 2 inches long. He's active and eats his food,water, and runs on his wheel. hes pretty much acting normal you can say. But i really need some answers for his Eye. Thanks in advance!

Wow, this same thing happened to me!
For me my hamster's bedding (aspen) was bothering his eye, but only one so I switched to Care Fresh...(truth!!!) It seems that aspen bedding tends to irritate hammys.
If switching bedding doesn't work, take him to a darker part of the house. Too much light maybe making him to close one eye.
If both these don't work, take him to your vet...I don't think you'll have to get medication but your vet may be able to tell you whats bugging him/her!!!

all sounds good with him, go and get the care fresh its the best thin you can get and mostly the best for his kind dwarf Russian and should not use anything else. What I would do with his eye is take a Luke warm wash cloth and try to wash his eye with only water no no soap, lightly go over his eye with it and do this a couple times a day, his eye should open with in two to three days, if not call a vet and see what they think, do not stick anything in his eye from the pet store only from a vet if it comes to that. Don't know if his eye was open at all at anything you did not say, but if you have never seen it open then it could be that it might just be that way, and if he is doing fine then its up to you what you want to do, try the warm water but make sure you ring out the wash cloth you don't want to add water to his eye you just want to lightly wash it, let me know if it works.

I will try to answer your question as best as I can, I used to(when I had guinea pigs ) and they had crusty eyes or infections use a cotton ball dipped in warm water NOT HOT water and iI would gently clean the little guys eye with the cotton ball 4 times a day and usually this would do the trick. If this doesnt ,then take the hamster to the vet,.I hope I have been of assistance to you. rubberstampr

hamsters get that alot what to do : take a wet warm cloth wipe the eye each day till its gets better if not better in oh say a week take to a vet it happens to mine all the time.

you can try petco they may have something but most generally the vet will have to give you something to treat pink eye.pink eye is very serious and contagious even to you so your best bet is to get it treated(by a vet)asap.
