The other quick way to do this is to use Norton ghost to backup the whole disk to CD/DVD or an external hard drive, or the second hard drive if you have one. Put the new hard drive in. Then use Norton ghost to restore the whole image, you backed up before, to your new hard drive. It takes 1-2 hours.
It is painful if you install from the beginning. It will take at least 5 hours.

If it is just a Cd dic drive ...no.. just install the CD reader/burner, and then insert the CD that comes with it and it will install the drivers.. This won't effect your personal computer settings. If it is the Hard drive you are talking about...yes

Yes, a new drive is simply a empty\blank storage device.
UNLESS you use a program like ACRONIS to make an EXACT copy of your drive before you replace it.
