It has it's PRO'S and CON'S.the Pro's are Toronto,Pitt,Philly, and such would put Detroit higher in the standings then they are right now.The West was a challenge only because of the ridiculous long road trips.Buffalo is a Great team that I think would make for some great match ups as well as Carolina, the rangers etc.. The Con's would be the rivalry between Nashville,Colorado,Kings and so on. But a great team like The RED WINGS will always make enemies.Like some of the other people who answered. The WINGS are at the top of the game year in and year out .That makes people jealous and say stupid things.

IF the Pens move Detroit would be the 2nd choice team to move to the east. Columbus is just a little further east than Detroit. Columbus could easily be popped into the Atlantic division as Pittsburgh's replacement and Kansas City would be a no brainer for the Central division.

No, it wouldn't work. It'd be bad for hockey in general, because the NHL generates a lot of revenue with Avalanche/Wings games. (Or at least they do when the teams are good...)
The Wings play a western style hockey -- bigger, more focused on strength, checking, and tough play. Eastern focuses more on quickness, finesse, that side of the game.

Also, if a team moves to the Eastern conference, it should be Nashville. They're pretty far east.

they would be a nice addition to the eastern confrence, but then the would only be one dominant team each year in the west and no real race to the playoffs. Haveing such a skilled team as detroit is in the eastern confrence would make the western confrence to bland and worse than it already is.

They will not become an eastern confernce team ever. If they realign the divisions, Detriot will be put with Chicago, St Louis, Minnesota and most likely Columbus or Nashville. One of those last two will become an eastern confernce team. IF they realign the divisions.

Folks in Toronto, Montreal, Boston and New York will be glad to see the Dead Things, er um I mean the Red Wings visit more frequently again. You've been banished for far too long (esp considering you're in the eastern time zone). Get er done Gary.

I'd hate it.. and I hate the Red Wings.

I love the Western Conference, it wouldn't be the same without them.
