The British are next-door neighbors to the French.

If you had the French living next door to you ... you'd taken action against them too.

AFTER READING YOUR ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

The dates that you have now given (1750 - 1755) suggest that you are asking a question about the French & Indian War / Seven Years War. Fighting did break out between British and French in North America during that period. If that is so, the main reason that the British took action against the French was: -

[1] Both French and British trying to stake claim to what was then called the 'Ohio Country', a huge area between the Great Lakes, the Appalachians and the Mississippi.

[2] To stake their claims, both sides tried to set up small forts and trading posts in the Ohio Country. At first, the French proved generally more aggressive and successful in doing so.

[3] Starting in 1749, the French sent out expeditions to claim sovereignty over the Ohio Country lands. They warned off any British traders that they met. When they encountered tribes that wanted to keep trading with the British, the French threatened to attack them if they continued to do so. If the Indians refused to obey, the French attacked their villages.

[4] Eventually, in 1753, the British reacted, sending George Washington with a message to the French to abandon their forts and claims. The French refused to budge.

[5] In 1754, the first fighting broke out between British and French for control of the Ohio Country. George Washington was in command of the British force in skirmishes in what is now south-western Pennsylvania.

[5] In 1755, there was the first major battle when a British army sent to capture Fort Duquesne (modern Pitsburgh) was ambushed and heavily defeated by a French and Indian force.

[6] Fighting now broke out all along the frontier, especially in what is now upper New York State.

[7] England formally declared war on France in May, 1756.

When? Could you be more specific. I'm not sure we've taken any action against the French since Napoleon.
