The only way to tell is in the spring a mature male goldfish will get "pimples" (breeding tubricles) on his gill covers and leading edge of the pectoral fins. That fish may chase around another one aggressively then the chased fish you could say is female. Sex doesn't really matter because you can't get them to make viable babies in the home aquarium. Breeding GF is best left to the pros. They will just eat any eggs laid.

It depends on what kind of fish you have. Some, like swordtails, are obvious. The males have the long swords, while the females are shorter. Some chiclids have different colorations. Someone from an aquarium store may be able to help you.

It really depends on the fish, and you have to look it up for that specific fish. Sometimes it's really easy to tell, and sometimes it's near impossible!

I don't know if this is true but someone told me that the gold fish with the flat tail was female. The other gold fish had a 3 tiered tail or fin what ever you call it. Those are male.
