They’re not gay, they’re just drawn that way. The artist wants to show off their muscles. Or, in the case of super heroines, their, ahem, attributes.

1) it cuts down on wind resinstance.
2) less for hired goons to grab on to. (its hugging the skin)
plus seeing a person with visible muscles can make the new goons run in need of a fresh pair of undies

thats because spandex is colorful, and gives a free range of movement. it also shows off muscles and leaves more room for weapons, emblems, etc.
