a lot of older people (not just moms) end up going to college because they feel they are ready for a change.
some mom's didn't get the chance to start or even finish college due to having a child to begin with. Taking care of a child is a lot of responsibility and time. So usually it isn't until later on in life that a person can break free enough to actually go back.
Other people go because they love to learn new things. I went back to college because I was tired of my boring old job and wanted a new career. It was fun. College isn't just for young people or just for partying. Its actually better sometimes to go to school when you are older and more mature . You care more about your classes, you are more responsible and you tend to learn and retain a lot more information than you do when you are younger because your not sidetracked by what anyone thinks about you. Kudo's to all the mom's in college!

I'm a mom. i go to college at night. I work full time during the day. I have five children. I'm studying mangement and business; I do my project work on a Saturday morning before anyone gets up. Do you think that's funny?

Maybe she became a mom before she had a chance to finish her education. Your never to young or old to learn new things.

I wonder if some parents feel that they are failures because their kids are so useless.
Perhaps they try to make up for it with education, hoping for at least one success in the family.
