Men have smaller butts

Not a stupid question at all. In fact, I don't think it really matters anymore as long as the jeans fit you. I share jeans with my husband, or did until I finally lost weight and he got all the larger sized jeans to himself. I had bought men's 7 for Mankind and paper Denim jeans because they came in larger sizes, but looking at the smaller sized pants I can't see a difference. My husband is very happy in my Dolce and Gabbana pants and they were definelty made for a woman. So, whatever fits, go for it. But you can always go to the men's department in a store if you feel uncomfortable about not knowing.

At one time buttons and zip were always opposite for men's and women's clothes, but that is not always the case anymore. Womens jeans are generally longer in the rise (crotch to waist), and are fuller in the hips. All of this depends on which cut you are buying. Your best bet is to find a store where the staff are trained on cuts and fabrics (Bluenotes, Levi's). In the end, if a jean of the opposite sex fits you and looks good, what does it matter?

Men's jeans are usually looser, baggier, and a straight cut. And come in much larger sizes. Women's jeans also have a "boyfriend" cut which is like a men's jean, but the waist tends to be smaller, the hip section slightly wider, and come in a variety of sizes, styles, and stretchiness. Women's jeans also have a curvier cut, instead of a straight cut.

The distance between the crutch and waistband is shorter in mens jeans. And the way the button fastens example to the left or the rigfht - although I dont know the direction for mens or womans

Simple, Womens jeans fit much better on men. Mens jeans look ridiculously baggy and out of shape which should be recalled and stores should only carry womens jeans and re name them unisex jeans.

i think its down to the buttons like everyone is saying, but me personally i bought 2 pair of men's jeans on my recent trip to Sweden and they fit sooo much better than the women's i have, they sit nicely across the tummy hiding slight podge rather than hanging over the top or bulging out if waist is too high like most women's jeans do, so i would try both men's and women's and see which you prefer
