I've tried setting up a couple of ranked matches. I get everything all set up, and then I just sit there waiting for additional players to join. They never join. I've waited for over an hour in some instances. And it seems others are able to set up matches very quickly and players easily find them. What gives?

Too many or too few rounds. Bad connection. Bad gamer rep. I run first to 5 or 7 and never have problems. If you have a friend with 360 and online, try to start a match then have them look for your match and tell you what your signal bar looked like. If you don't have a full gamer rep yet, people might think you quit alot or something so if thats the case try to get some people to prefer you to increase your rep.

The Gears of conflict franchise is merely on Xbox 360. Microsoft owns the rights to the sequence, so it is not on PS3 as of obtrusive motives. In different words, you will ought to very own a Xbox 360 to play Gears of conflict 3.
