i myself am a huge fan of 60's and 70's rock. i hope my suggestions to you for 80's and 90's are helpful.
here is a listing of some really good rock off the top of my head (i think at least) from the 80's and 90's in no order:
Soundgarden (their albums "Down on the Upside" and "Superunkown" are amazing), Sublime, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, The Smiths, The Cure, Pearl Jam (their album "Yield" is amazing, it's their best one I think), Jane's Addiction, Stone Temple Pilots, Sean Lennon (John Lennon's son), Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I'm going to suggest an album called "Sea Change" by Beck, this album is different from all his other albums. it's a great rock album with no screaming or in your face music. just good guitar and songwriting. i think you would like it.

The Black Crowes and Bad Company are two really good 90's bands. They sound more like rock music from the 60's and 70's than anything else. Some songs to check out -
Bad Company:
Shooting Star
Feel Like Making Love
How About That
Ready For Love
The Black Crowes:
She Talks To Angels
Cursed Diamond
Stare It Cold
Seein' Things

The Replacements- great music, many great albums. Get Tim or Hootenany.
The ARC ANGELS- check them out. they put out 1 great record in the early 90's. Band includes Doyle Bramhall II (in the Stevie Ray Vaughn mold) and Charlie Sexton.

i'm a rock fan, and the reason i do not extremely like rap isn't because of the content textile. this is because i do not extremely like the workstation generated beats that are used alot. i love rap like Rage antagonistic to The gadget, because it makes use of instruments and not in any respect merely computers. If I suggested i did not like rap for the content textile, i'd be an entire hypocrite. although, I do imagine that hip-hop form rap possibly talks about sex and income a extra vulgar way than rock often times. i'm thoroughly perplexed as to why people are declaring hardly any rock bands communicate about sex or funds? There are lots, believe me! Walrus is conscious of what he's talkin about. it really is a few extra examples of rock songs which communicate about sex and funds... Get Down Make Love - Queen What You Do For funds Honey - AC/DC sex Rap - RHCP Rocket Queen - guns n Roses Rag Doll - Aerosmith enable's Spend The evening mutually - Rolling Stones Wango Tango - Ted Nugent entire Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin you get the point...
