What, if any, legislation do feminist activists want the governments to pass?
For example, are there laws that protect men, but not women?
Or, do they want special protections for women only?
If so, how does that support their equal treament postulate?

The Walmart class action suite is possible because of civil protections for all.
What more would you have the government do?

elletera - thank you for you observation.
However, the same is true of PAternity leave.
Spending many months away from work will impact the career of any man or woman. The professional sacrifice is likely worth it though.

True, I was not specific. Frankly, I was referring specifically to the US.
However, it can also apply to any Western government that at least purports to reject discrimination based on race, religion, gender, etc.

Certainly discrimination based on gender (impacting both men and women), race, nationality, and religion still exists - even in the West.
All the government (i.e. non-third-world democracies) can do is to put legal protections in place and make recourse available.
Those protections are working, as evidenced by the many discrimination legal cases in court now - including the Walmart case.
Legally, at least, women have the same and in some cases even more protections than men.

Since you weren't specific about which women are discriminated against today, I'll point out that at least one country has a number of pieces of legislation that feminist activists would like their government to pass (these are all rights men have that women don't):
Right to vote
Right to drive
Right to an education
Right to work
Right to leave their home unescorted
Laws that protect men in this country?
Men can easily divorce, women can't. If a divorce is approved, women don't have a right to custody of their children.
Special protections in this country? I'd guess the average woman would like to leave her home without wearing the required traditional clothing without worrying about being stoned. Oops, that isn't special protection either, that's just a basic human right, right to life, I believe?
Which country? Saudi Arabia.

Hmm.. i in my opinion imagine women people are today discriminated particularly via the arrival and that i visit describe what I advise via this- the media has plenty to do with reinforcing countless elegance icons into the thousands...and the society seems to settle for a great number of those icons. in case you word how women people are presented contained in the media, it style of feels as they're merely time-honored even as being youthful, slender, tall, wearing vogue outfits, makeup, and so and so... the ladies those who do no extra healthful this established, are frequently being mocked, or exceeded over, or dealt with as a lot less significant... there is no longer this style of rigidity for the arrival of adult men. To adult men, the society provides concepts- they're allowed to be fat, grotesque and not in any respect being concerned about their seems- and nevertheless, they're neither mocked, nor seen to be a lot less significant than good-looking and being concerned adult men.

Yes women are discriminated against. It happens every time a women wants a job. Men get better jobs and more money, and it's not fair. It happens a lot in sports too. Girls or women in sports are seen as aggressive or other things, but it's getting better I think. Also, women aren't allowed to be Army Rangers, and that's odd because there are women on the front line. It's just weird.

Huh, Pixie, I just read through the requirements for your US Army Rangers, and no where does it say that women are not admitted... Unless of course you mean to say that the women that apply FAIL because they cannot keep up, in which case, the system works as it should.
Women should not be given a gun and marched into combat if they cannot carry their own weight, and then some. (Just as the male rangers would have to.) What good is a 150 lb 5'5" woman when she has to squat the weight of her gear + an injured squadmates?

Phil-3, I do hope that you're not an idiot. Your comment makes you appear that way. There are woman out there who do the time. Who let go of the dream of children and husbands for their careers, and that o.k. ALL of us should have that right to a promotion if we put our 110% everyday, if we truly deserve it. Your pee-pee shouldn't give you the right to climb the corporate ladder. Competence is what it should take. You don't think she should get the job if she's better than you. Are you emasculated by woman in authority? That's the same argument that plagued blacks and still does from time to time.

When you are on maternity leave, you cannot pay into your pension plan so you loose this time. You loose out on promotions in the workplace. The longer you stay off the more you are seen as less credit worthy. Child bearing and child rearing of one's own children is not regarded as a profession. So, maybe these are some issues that still need to be addressed.

Furthermore, is there concrete evidence of this harassment against women by Wal Mart? Or are those women just crying to a PATRIARCHAL authority for help?
