Our tadpole lived for 2 years and never developed into a frog.

Oddly, the axolotl will not mature into the tiger salamander if its diet is short on iodine. I can speculate that it is possible that a similarly malnourished tadpole of another species would fail to metamorphose -- although I have not personally heard about it happening.
