Try Narberth. Great neighborhood. Great schools -- Lower Merion. Cute town and you can walk to the train.

Depends somewhat on how much you can spend. There are some older towns in NJ, such as Moorestown and Haddonfield that have lovely homes and quiet neighborhoods. But they are expensive. And living in the less-historic areas of these towns isn't very nice.

On the Pennsylvania side, there are some gentrified (but not snobby) neighborhoods within the city or nearby. The Main Line is going to be snobby, but there are pockets of places that aren't so bad. Wayne, Havertown, and Haverford are all pretty nice.
