well there really isn't a certain age requirement. I was 14 when I got my first phone. Of course it was a prepaid an I hated it. Show your parents that u r responsible enough for a phone. They might think if they buy u a phone the bill will get outrageous. u may not like it but ask for a revol phone. U get free min an texts. Or u could just do your homework for the phone or plan u want. They wont want to pay too much or be stuck in a long agreement plan. So look out for that. Show them all the positives about the phone an how responsible u will be. Say how u deserve it, and how helpful it will be. Maybe just maybe u could say that u an your sister can share a phone. I know it doesn't sound great but that might be the only way. If your sis doesn't want a phone then u will have it most of the time anyways. ~*Hope I Helped*~

I think 13 is old enough to get a cell phone but only if you are responsible and know not to use the phone for anything other then emergencies and the cell phone should be one that cost $30 or less and is a prepaid where you buy a card.
pinkpixie who are you to call kids with cell phones spoiled rotten brats? I can not even believe so many people gave your ignorant and ludicrous statement so many thumbs up.
More then 90% of teens have cell phones so I guess every single one of them are spoiled brats? I myself had a cell phone at 16 but it was one that had a prepaid card and was only 20 bucks and I only used it for emergencies.
Cell phones are good for kids in case they get into trouble or have an emergency where they need to get ahold of there parents or dial 911 right away ad are not near a phone.
They had a case on Americas Most Wanted where two 16 year old girls were snatched at gunpoint and while the man who snatched them ad raped them was taking a pee in the bushes not far from the van in the middle of the woods one of the girls quickly messaged her mother with her cell phone telling her what was happening, the girl was able to message her mom where they were and the police were called and arrived within 30 minutes and both girls survived but if that 16 year old did not have a cell and was unable to contact her mother they may of very well of been killed.
Do you still think kids should not have cell phones and are spoiled brats?

It all depends on the maturity level. I mean, the real time u need 1 is when you are out for extended periods of time, and may not have the use of a pay phone... like, perhaps, if you miss your bus and there's not another one coming until tomorrow, that would be a good time. Talk to ur parents about how at times it could be dangerous NOT to have a cell phone to get in contact if you need to. but if you do get one, DO NOT run up the bill with text messages. been there, done that, and the phone was taken away as easily as it came

My son got his first cell fone when he turned 12. You could ask your parents just to go to Alltell wireless and get a pre paid fone. The fones are any fone they have in the store- razors- flip fones, ect.... the only difference is its prepaid- like $29 a month for 200 day minutes and 1000 nite and weekend minutes. Or $39 a month for 400 day time minutes and 2000 nite and weekends. That way they wont be afraid of some huge bill and you will be happy with a great fone that u picked out! Thats what I did with my son his first 2 years. Now he is 16 and works and pays his own plan! Good luck to u! I like him having a cell cuz I can reach him anytime and I feel alot safer knowing he can call me if he needs me in any emergency! Good luck to u!

talk to you parents and see if they would consider getting you a pre paid one as a test to prove you can handle responsibility. they are pretty inexpensive and you can set a time period of say a year to show you can keep up with the phone and not abuse the privilage of it. most parents are afraid of the high bills associated with regular cell phones so with the prepaid kind if you abuse the use of it then you run out of minutes. make up a kind of contract with your parents that says you will earn the money for your minutes, will not use it at inappropriate times (like at school), and that you will keep enough $$ on it for them to be able to reach you if they need to. this is what i have done with my daughter when she turned 13 and there have been some problems along the way but it gives her a chance to be responsible with something she really wants and she knows that if she abuses my trust she will lose the phone and start from scratch on how long before she gets a regular cell.

it all depends on the child... some people think there is a certain age but theres not... if a child is responsible enough at 13 to not run up the bill then they can have one... im 15 i still dont have a cell phone. when my brother wuz in high school my aunt signed a plan 4 him.. his bill wuz 400 dollars... my parents said theyre not gettin a phone 4 none of us after my brother... so it depends on the parents to. but that same brother is gettin me 1 next week.

you're still 13 so its a little too soon, but thats just my opinion. 15 or 16 would be the right time to get a cell phones.
TELL YOUR PARENTS ABOUT DISNEY MOBILE. they have something called, family locator which allows them to locate ur sister using GPS technology. They also have the minutes control and text control so ur parents dont have to worry about over minutes.
You guys r still young and they're trying to watch out for u. so that would make it a lil easier for them. who knows they'll get u a cell phone too.

Are you involved in any after school activities? Clubs? Sports? Those are all valid reasons to have a cell phone. It's a good way to keep in touch with your parents ... to let the know when practices are over ... when play rehersals get cancelled ... things like that.
If you're mature and responsible enough, you can talk to your parents about valid reasons why you should have your own cell phone. Be prepared to give them reasons ... and be prepared to follow their rules when it comes to using one.

maybe around middleschool when you have to start picking them up around the block. But the phone shouldnt contain games, text messageing, camera, etc. THose things will just distract the child and they will slack in activities. The phone should be used for emerginces to contact their parents. Not to call their friends. If they go over minutes they should be responsible for paying their bill.

When you feel that they're responsible enough not to lose them and abuse them. That's when. Your the parent, you decide. How capable are your children of being mature enough to handle managing a cell phone, that's the real question here.
