"Executive Producer" is such a nebulous credit. It generally means someone demanded to get their name on the film for doing very little. Sometimes it's the agent who convinces the big star to sign on. Other times it's a member of the star's entourage. It can also be the person who puts up some money to make the film, or the one who bought rights to the book the movie is based on, or...

In other words, it's not really a "job" - it's an often-meaningless credit.
