Make sure 30 min before you go to bed you don't watch TV or get on the computer or anything like that. Also, make sure your room is cool, people sleep better in a cold enviroment. Just get in a really comfortable position with pillows and blankets and close your eyes and let your mind wander. You could also read a really boring book before going to bed. I read my biology text book, haha, I go to sleep very quickly!
Also, don't eat 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Allow your body time to digest the food.

First, eliminate all TV in your room, radio, or refrigerator.
Even the air conditioner that could make noise.
Then take a shower or bath, put fresh pijamas everynight or just panties or t-shirt, depends in what you sleep, put yourself in bed, stay up to 25 minutes with the lights on, while you read a book or magazines or just fill up your diary, or you just make evening prayer or meditation whatever or massage, even listen to music, not gymnastics that you should make before the shower. Then remove the radio and the magazines from the room, cause you'll think of them, put the lights off and seat in bed, takes several deep breathings and start imagine a story you like,or a place you have been in holiday, at the mountain, seaside.
But creating sleep routine it's just best.

Try drinking a soothing tea before bed such as chamomile tea. It has been used for centuries to battle illness, promote calm and relieve anxiety. It is used at bedtime to promote a restfull night sleep. It is all natural and actually very good for you.
Also you could try putting a warm wrung out wash cloth on your forehead to sooth you and try listening to soft music.
If having alot of excess energy is the problem I would suggest doing aerobic exercise or running for an hour in the evening. Also do not eat any pasta or foods high in carbs after 12 pm and don't eat anything after 6 pm at night. Digesting food at night may cause you to get less deep sleep and may also cause discomfort.
I hope this helps!

Turn off the lights, close your eyes, and have a nice puffy pillow under your head. You'll drift off in no time. It's best if you hit the sack about fifteen minutes before if you have a difficult time sleeping.

Maybe listening to music, or counting forever. I usually listen to music until I get drowsy. Then I turn it off, and sleep peacefully. My brother lays in bed for ten minutes. Then he walks to a room that is full of darkness, light will tell your brain to wake up. Then he walks back to his room and sleeps peacefully all night long.

Cut back on caffine and stimulants 4 hours before bedtime. Drink warm milk (lactic acid is a mild sedative), have a turkey sandwich 1 hour earlier (turkey has a mild sedative).
Sex also works great, for me any way. Knocks me right out afterward.

Well drugs are the only thing that do it for me.......but then again I am an insomniac.
Just turn off your TV, or computer....when you want to fall asleep, because it stimulates your brain.
Try doing yoga before bed
No Caffeine after 2 pm
