Akira Kurosawa

My fave would be Seven Samurai. Although it was made way back when in 1948, it is still entertaining and relevant today. (if you didn't know, it was remade into The Magnificent Seven by John Sturges)

His other classics are Rashomon, Throne of Blood (adaptation of Macbeth), The Hidden Fortress (inspired George Lucas to make Star Wars), Yojimbo, Ran (adaptation of King Lear) etc, etc...

There is no other director of his time that has made such impact on the world of cinema, not only in his way of storytelling but in his ability to shoot film and his camera work.

Steven Spielberg.
And I can't choose a best from Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, E.T, The Color Purple, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, A.I., Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can.
It's a bit like asking to choose your favorite sibling.

Tim Burton has to be my favorite director, but I'm not sure what my favorite movie is. I've loved every movie that I've ever seen by him.

I admire Oliver Stone because he takes chances and does not necessarily conform to what society expects - and my example of that is "Natural Born Killers" which still today recieves so much negative feedback yet was meant to give awareness to the power of the media and how we as a society fall prey to it.

I really like Tim Burton. His movies look like nothing else out there. My favorite is Sleepy Hollow.

Brian DePalma - "Scarface"

Oliver Stone - "JFK"

Bernardo Bertolucci - "The Last Emperor" (my favourite film ever)

John Woo - "Lashou Shentan (Hard Boiled)"
