The old time singers were better. They were more original and thought more about what words to use in their songs, instead of nowadays people using the same verses, over, and over, and over...

The best of the old songs survived the longest, most modern songs won't survive, but the good ones, and there are a few, will survive.
I like a lot of songs from the 50's, and from the 60's, but it wasn't all good, we had a lot of 78rpm records.

Yeah... but what about Russell Watson, Hayley Westenra, Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum etc?
They are truly great singers who sound GREAT live, and dont even need music to perform (i.e.Hayley Westenra on Parkinson last year)

Most definitely. Most singers now days only remake old songs anyway. And they're not real singers. More like studio singers. In the studio (some, not all) sound sooo good but when you get 'em live your like...omg! that sounds like me in the shower.!!
