this is a conservatin of momentum question.

Velocity is a vector, so direction is important.

m1*v1i+m2*v2i=m1*v1o+m2*v2o

we know that v2i=0, since the 3 kg object is at rest.

We also know that v1o=v2o since the objects stick together,
call it vo

you didn't provide v1i, so the answer will be expressed in terms of v1i
2*v1i=(2+3)*vo
2*v1i/5=vo

the direction will be easterly since the center of mass is constant.
