I've just been advised today from another mother that the fact that my 9 mth old daughter hasn't tried to take any weight on her legs could be a problem. She sits normally but hasn't yet tried to crawl but she does lay on her back and moves herself with her heels by pushing herself up, has anybody else had this issue or am i worrying about nothing and i've just got a late starter.?

NO need to panic just yet!! There is always that one mother than will compare her kids to yours....oh yeah, we know who they are!

I think you're on the right track. Your daughter has found a way to get from point a to point b and that's a start. Be sure to do a little more tummy time and put an object that she really wants in very near reach so she can get to it. Get behind her and show her the crawling movements. Or, do the holding her hands bit and walking with her between your legs. **These are just ideas to do if you want to do anything to help her progression, but I still feel she's doing fine.**

Don't fret yet!! She is very young. Crawling happens anywhere from 9 to 12 months. Walking happens anywhere from 11 months on. It will come to her really soon and then you'll be chasing after her like a champ.

My baby is 9 1/2 months old and she doesnt crawl she just shuffles around on her bottom. She is only just thinking about using her legs. She can just about get onto her knees with holding onto something. But im not worried and neither should you be. Once they are walking your always going to be on your feet, watching them 24/7. So dont worry and enjoy your little one.

Please trust your instinct as far as your daughter is concerned and do not listen to other mums, since their child may be developing in a totally different way from yours. If your daughter is concentrating on intellectual development, her physical development may be a little delayed compared to some other children.

I have had 4 children, all who walked at different ages and they are all intelligent healthy kids, in spite of taking different times to develop physically.

If she is developing in an average or above average way in all other areas, do not worry. She may be the type of baby who doesn't crawl in the standard way and then goes straight to attempting to walk.

You and only you knows your baby best. Here's a quote from www.bbc.co.uk/parenting/your_kids/babies_devstagesintro.shtml

As your baby's first birthday approaches, you may see her standing without support and beginning to walk. She may start anytime between the age of ten and 18 months. If she's not walking by 18 months, contact your health visitor or doctor.

Looks like you've got another 9 months before you need to worry!

Best of luck!

It's absolutely normal my daughter didn't crawl until she was a year old and then at 17 months stood up and walked for a short while holding onto her walker and then just let go and began walking unaided. She was a lot steadier on her feet than my friends child who began walking at 11 months.

Every child is different and she will walk when she's ready. Try getting her a walker to hold on to. She may just surprise you and try walking holding onto it.

I would say at 9 months it is too early to say if it is a problem. I would worry if she isn't walking by 18 months.

If you really need peace of mind, then go and see the health visitor. The other mother is well meaning, but without wanting to be rude, what does she know - is she a childcare professional?

All babies develop at their own pace and we can't all have babies that walk at 10 months

children progress in their own time and shouldnever be forced to do so any quicker. she will get up one day and surprise u all but dont worry. on average children do not walk until about 14 months and some do not crawl at all! as long as she is happy and healthy then just enjoy her while she is stil immobile! lmao!
