In your opinion, do you think that this is an appropriate position for judges to take.

I think it is an extremely fair position for judges to take. People will present an argument in such a way to promote their interests, and so each version of the story will differ in a way to place them in the best light. The truth, as the judge observed, most frequently lies somewhere in the middle.
