When I moved here almost ten years ago, I thought I hit the big time. There was less traffic, petrol was cheaper, insurance was cheaper, groceries were cheaper, and there were lots of jobs for the taking. Ten years later, even though I finally have my own house, I think I have made the wrong decision in moving here. My job sucks, the pay sucks, the city is turning into a free-for-all as far as crime is going. I should have gone somewhere else, but I had family here that were willing to put me up without cost, so I jumped at the chance. If you are thinking of moving here, I wish you the best of luck. It ain't great, but it ain't TOO bad.

KC isn't a bad place. It's a pretty large city with about 2 million people in the metro area. Downtown's coming along nicely with the new arena being built beside a new entertainment and arts district. It isn't complete yet, but give downtown a year or so and it'll be a pretty cool place to be.

The suburbs are like suburbs everywhere. Boring strip malls, everyone in their SUV's, etc, but not bad. Probably better to live closer to the action in KC if you're young and single, but the 'burbs if you're a tad older with kids in school. There are more expensive areas in Johnson County Kansas, and also some areas north of KC on the Missouri side. Cheaper suburbs are KC Kansas, Independence, Raytown, etc.

You can get from one end of the city to the other in about 40 minutes, depending on the traffic. The suburbs are growing in each direction of the city, and in Kansas also. There are great schools, fine restaurants and Kansas City is in the top twenty cities in the United States to live. If you want to see what's going on, this website is very good. It's : www.kansascity.com It will give you the upcoming events, and things going on in the city.

Depends on where you're moving from. While it's a big Midwestern city, it doesn't have the round-the-clock amenities of New York or Chicago. But it's a great city with its own unique personality. People are quite friendly there and the local cuisine is great. There are a couple of BBQ places (won't name names, but every local knows the competitors) that are AMAZING. KC has a good jazz scene and Westport is a fun place to bar hop if you're young. The Plaza has good shopping.

If you have specific questions, feel free to e-mail me. I lived there for several years during grad school.

To answer your question. KC MO, is a dump, KCK is also a dump. If you want to spend the extra money, go to the Suburbs, like Overland Park or Leawood (where i live). Lots of Resturants, bars, malls, so on. The city is crime ridden with thugs, I would stay away from it. Its reminds me of St Louis, with all the crime. I tend to stay in the suburbs, where people are normal and have class. Oh, and their BBQ sucks. You mind as well go to Famous Daves. I moved here from Minneapolis, they have better bbq than KC. Its just dried out burnt bbq

It's an interesting town - has very affordable housing, relatively little traffic, bars are open till 3a.m., you can buy liquor on Sundays, quite a few activities - art museums, good shopping & sports teams. People are very friendly. It certainly isn't L.A. or Chicago - but it beats Wichita or Des Moines!

hmmm...lets see.
High crime rate.
High unemployment.
Mayor Kay Barnes is in her last term. She was very good at getting redevelopment projects going.
The next mayor will probably squander her efforts.
Terrible schools with a school board that is only interested in bickering with each other.
Resistant to transportation changes that would help make K.C. great again.ie light rail.
An embarrassing police force. You may be familiar with the incident with a pregnant black woman who was stopped by police.
She said she was bleeding and needed medical attention. They denied her that request ,opting to take her to jail instead where she then mis-carried.A full year later the male and female officers were unburdened of there duties.
Dirty streets and sidewalks.
I could go on.....
