The first part sounds like it's saying you automatically know who you are. You're the smart person, the geeky person, the talented one, black or white, male or female. So you know the everyday ordinary things you are. The second part sounds like it's saying even though we know what we are, we don't know what we can become. The person who makes bad grades may not know they have the potential to go medical school. I mean that we don't know what are futures hold. We may be the smartest person in the world but that doesn't guarantee we'll have success in the future. What you are doesn't always tell you what you will be.

It means we know what we are now, but we are most of the time unaware of our true potential and what we may be if we continue to grow and develop ourselves into complete well rounded beings. It means don't be lazy, stretch yourself to the limits and think outside the box. Great advice.

It means you should do your own homework...
Okay, think about it this way:
You know who and what you are right now, in this moment. But who will you be tomorrow? In a week? A month? A year?
Or, this way:
Think about Spiderman. He gets up one day, "I'm Peter Parker, average high school student" -- the next day "oh, crap, I can shoot webs"

We know what we are right now. You know who you are. You know your own heart. We do not know what we may be in the future, after circumstance and experience has changed our personalities.

It means that while we are able to know the present, we can't know the future.

We don't know our future.
Shakespeare used a lot of words to say simple things and the reason we don't just call him Bill.
