I'm 17, and last year made the mistake of dropping out of highschool. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, but it's not working out too well. I've been toggling between psychologist, vet tech, random whims that don't last. I have no idea what direction I should head in.

So is there a person that I can pay to answer important questions and possibly sort of point me in the right direction? I need a job that will pay, and devoting a few years to college isn't really all that big of a problem to get something that I feel capable of. Someone that can tell me the job description, requirements, and average pay.

I'm lost, and I need to know who I need to talk to to get my life on track.

I've had my GED since two months after dropping out. If I hadn't gotten it, I'd be back in highschool right now. And there was no counselor-type person where I got my GED.

I know our college here does - I think they call it vocational rehab. Call a local college and see if they have anything similar. You might also try calling your State workforce development office.

First of all, you need to get your G.E.D. - Take the first step in advancing yourself by completing highschool. Without a highschool diploma, or at least a GED, no college in America will even consider you. When you get your GED, at whatever institutuon you get it at, usually they will have counselors there that can help to point you in the right direction as far as then going to technical school, or college, or pursuing a job in career counseling from there. Also, do a search on the web for career counseling to get a better idea as to what they actually do. You may find that it doesn't appeal to you at all, but if it does, then take ONE step at a time, and make it a journey. That's why they call it a "career path". It's a series of steps. My advice? Get your G.E.D., and go to college!!! It's your BEST path to a good life, and a promising career, whatever field you decide to pursue. Good luck!

you will sort it out. the fact that your asking this type of question tells me you're heading in the right direction. there are counselors at community colleges. go to one and sign up for some courses under general studies. i was in your exact same predicament. i went the army route, but that's pretty dangerous these days. anyway, it turned out fine for me and will for you too.
