I "remade" an old bulletin board that someone had given to me that had fabric that didn't match anything in my home, but you could start with a piece of scrap wood cut to the measurements you need. Start by wrapping it in a heavy weight batting and stapling it to the back, fold the corners to fit. You can then wrap your fabric over the batting in the same way or if you sew, make a cover for the entire board as if you were making a pillow cover, here's where you can get creative, for example: use piping, lace edging, ruffles etc. when you finish you can place your ribbon in any pattern you want and either staple to the back (keep a little slack so you can slip your pictures, notes etc on it) or you can use upholstery nails. Then attach your brackets so you can wall mount it. When you've finished you can step back and say "I made this myself"!
