The US was probably thinking I wonder who is deciding to run for president. The US has no bearing over who decides to run for president it is the choice of the individual. If you actually mean what was the US thinking when they voted for President Bush, but that is an entirely different question. And in Answer to that he is better than those bleeding heart hummer receiving democrats. At least GW has not been caught with his pants around the ankles whilst tyrants run loose. If Bill had put in the same energies then 9/11 would probably have never happen.

Well, not MOST of the U. S.,, since Gore DID win the popular vote...but when Bush decided to run for president, he portrayed heimself as extremely conservative (boy, did he fool you people) Bible Thumper, with a strong dose of family values thrown in. He made an immediate hit with that segment of the population that lives by the motto, "I don't need to think...Limbaugh, Hannaty and O'Reilly do that for me." And believe me, don't underestimate the number of "Dittiots" out there.
He struck a chord with the Clinton haters...no, that's not right, the Clinton Haters...ummmm, that doesn't capture it either...I know, the CLINTON HATERS!!!!!!!!! These aren't the people who think the Clinton Presidency left a lot to be desired (it did), or that Bill Clinton has a few, shall we say, character issues (oh boy, does he ever). These are the people who lost sleep every day of the Clinton Administration, just because it WAS the Clinton Administration. These are the people who cannot say the name "Bill Clinton" without adding "The Antichrist." These are the people who even now wake up in cold sweats at night at the thought of Hillary Clinton occupying the White House as the main tennant (Don't sweat it, all you Neanderthals out there...negative name recognition alone will do her in eventually). Once Bush became the front runner, they were all to happy to jerk their knees, parrot all the praise heaped on Dubya by all the talk show hosts (Liberal bias? Quit whining and give me a break), salivate all over their shirts waiting for their chance to make Al Gore pay the price for holding the Weakest Political Office in the Free World while Bill "The Most Evil Person In History And Yes We're Including Hitler, Stalin, John Wilkes Booth, Barry Bonds (sorry, personal bias showing) and Judas Iscariot" Clinton occupied (sometimes alone, sometimes with company) the Oval Office. And that's what that portion of the U. S. was thinking when Bush decided to run for president.
Now the rest of the country...that would be those of us with functioning frontal lobes and an IQ too high to double as a score Tiger Woods would shoot on the final day at Augusta...we sort of looked at this guy and thought "What a schmuck. Hope to hell he's smarter than he lets on." And in fairness to Mr. Bush he is...but he still makes Clinton look like Thomas Jefferson in contrast.
Whew!! Quite a rant, wasn't it? I think I'll go answer some less taxing questions...like "Why haven't the Pittsburgh Penguins gotten their new arena yet?" (Answer, because Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, and Pittsburgh Mayer Luke "The Boy Wonder" Ravenstahl are a bunch of clueless morons who have their heads up their @$$e$...but I digress). Hey, have good day and remember to "Spring Ahead" Saturday Night/sunday Morning at 2AM>>>>>

They were actually thinking for once. Not just rooting for someone because of their gender or ethnicity. I can't stand the 08 election and its only just begun.
