It would take massive disillusion with the current parties at the same time as a stong non political figure with incredible leadership skills is at the peak of their popularity.
That is certainly possible but unlikely. I can't think of anyone in the world today who was born in the USA who could pull it off.
One other thought. We could force a change to a parlimentary for of government. That would enable a more diverse representation.

One of the current Political Parties would have to die out like the Whigs did. The american electorate system has been predicated on their being two dominant parties. Just the way it goes as the third parties take votes away from the other 2 large parties and for this reason their can only be two parties at a time and if their ever became a 3rd viable political party everyone and their mother would start a political party and nothing would ever get done.

I think the unity of ideologically-minded parties would be a good start, either by forming a new party or by having an alliance (remember when the Liberal Party and Social Democratic Party united during the 1980s and now there's a strong third party in UK). Money is also very important but I don't think it's the quantity that matters, it's how you use it. Starting with the local and state races and if the party wants to endorse a Presidential ticket and not nominate a ticket it can. But I think unity is the first important step. I have a feeling that a strong third party will come soon. Thanks!

It would be hard. There is nothing anyone can do to create one, we need a 3rd view. If you look here, most people either fall all the way on one side and hate Bush, and everything GOP and the other half defend everything the GOP does and hate everything the Dems do. There are not enought people in the middle, and the candidates that are, like Leiberman, Arnold, even Guiliani ect still want to have the money and the support of their respective party to every jump on the 3rd party ticket.

Some new issue would have to split one of the existing parties.
Both parties are pretty inclusive, once the few litmus issues are decided on.
I know that many people think the parties are the same, but for reference:
Democrats favor social programs that give benefits to all citizens and don't mind taxes. Democrats favor laws to govern business.
Republicans favor lower taxes and letting social issues resolve themselves bad or good. Republicans see business as the cure to everything, and want it as unrestrained as possible.
Third parties only have a narrow strip of issues to stake out, and those issues are usually pretty unrealistic.

The working type has no represntation interior the U. S.. The Dems. provide lip provider to them, yet backside line they characterize "Corp. u.s." same because of fact the Reps. regrettably, they and the controlled press have finished this way of fatastic job in terrifying the U. S. people whilst it is composed of the be conscious "Socialism", they by no potential could desire to worry. Democracy isn't something extra desirable than a appealing thought that all of us interior the international could desire to be entitled to. besides the undeniable fact that, it has one important flaw: this is the only door to capitalism. Capitalism, and the human greed it fosters, is the terminal maximum cancers that finally consumes and destroys actual democracy. people finally substitute into enraged at being raped by potential of the wealthy and privileged, and upward thrust up and riot, and dictatorial government is the effect. The best occasion of this easy actuality is the wanton destruction of non-public freedoms; the rape, homicide, pillaging and occupation of different international locations for their organic materials. the genuine tragedy of all it somewhat is that despots like George W. Bush declare they're doing this to maintain democracy interior the U.S. in fact individuals lost their democracy the day he became president. there is a thank you to maintain own freedoms and democracy; it somewhat is stated as social democracy. Social democracy helps all of us to learn, not basically the wealthy. Social democracy isn't communism. it extremely is the only desire I worry to your united states of america. till then, i'm afraid the choise would be Tweedledee Dum or Tweedledee Dee.

CASH AND TONS OF IT.........
and of course a willinginess on the part of the American people to dig their heads out of the sand and vote for ideas not parties.
However, if/ when this does happen we will need 300 parties not 3.

The Libertarian Party is making some great in-roads in this regard. Their tax plan is one of the best I have ever heard of.
