I have a spyware program and I hear a lot of computer activity when I'm online and idle for a while. Could this actually be collecting and sending my info?

Since you don't say what AS program(s) you are using it is difficult to give you an answer.

There is a site that evaluates all AS programs and lists the ones that don't perform to standards as Rogue programs. You should always check any program you plan on using against the Rogue program list at Spyware Warriors.

Legit AS programs are not spyware. Don't believe what you hear from the "tin foil hat" crowd.

There are thousands of highly skilled people that evaluate AS and AV programs. They would let the world know, very quickly, if AV and AS programs was performing Spyware functions.

Legitimate spyware removal tools are great. Don't know if you've installed a phony one.

Some of the more popular ones are:

Spybot
Ewido
Ad-Aware
Spyware Sweeper.
