I have a two questions about jurt trials and law. I am from New Mexico and we can look up anyone court dates and information regarding that case online. What I would like to know is:

1. Are jury trials normally public? Can anyone sit in on a trial and hear the outcome?

2. Are you allowed to inspect court documents ?

I have also found this site, but find it difficult to determine the answer I am looking for, any help would be greatly valued. Thanks

Yes everything is public, as long as it is not a juvenile case. Anyone can sit in on the case and hear the verdict. Also, you can go to the court clerk's office and ask to look at a file. As long it is not a juvenile (ie...adoption, juv. criminal, guardianship) they will let you look at it.

Generally, yes.

2. Are you allowed to inspect court documents?

Generally, yes, as they become part of the public record. However, such documents would be limited to the participants during the trial.

In New York, you can observe any criminal and most civil trials. Family court is still closed.
Court documents are often made public, after trial, but not always.

he US Constitution guarantees public crinimal trials by jury
