Run the washing machine (without clothes) and add a cup of bleach or vinegar. If you use liquid detergent, try using powdered detergent.

Fill your washing machine with hot water and put some vinegar and baking soda in it. Let it run a normal cycle with no clothes in it.
(I don't measure, but I probably use about 2 cups of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda for my extra large capacity washer.)
FYI, I've tried it before and bleach and detergent do not get rid of the smell. The only thing that has worked for me is vinegar and baking soda.

Try just running the washer with your favorite detergent, and no clothes. I like GAIN as far as smelling really good. Try whichever one has FEBREEZE in it. I think it's TIDE.It wouldn't hurt to wash those clothes a few more times too.Don't put them in the dryer until they don't stink anymore.
