My husband and I are trying to conceive. We are both excited about this event, though during conversations about telling him of the big news, he has expressed to me that he may first react with a scared look or something. I am absolutely terrified of how to tell him when I do become pregnant. I don't want to feel like he isn't happy about it, even though he did say he is and will be, but I know his first reaction will be a scared one, and I know how that will affect me seeing his first reaction, as you can imagine, I will want his first reaction to be happy, though I cannot control that. So, I have been trying to think of ways to tell him without having to see his first reaction. I know this may sound a little selfish, but its a big deal to me too, and I don't want the news of our first child to be negative in any way. Any info would be much appreciated.

I would search the internet for something creative to do, like maybe take a picture of the preg test and print out the pic and write on the back "Future Daddy" or something like that. Put the pic in his lunch or something. He will open it and he will know you are preg but you wont have to see his face at first if he seems scared. If he is at work, it will give him time to think about it before he calls you or comes home. Hope this helps.

Have you asked him why he thinks he'd react that way? Is he scared that you may not be able to afford a baby? What's he so scared of? Maybe once you get that out of the way, and try working on the negatives to make them positive, then he should have a better reaction.
Maybe you two need more communication skills??? Tell him how you feel.
"Hon. I'm really excited to have your children, but I don't know if you are as excited as I am. I need to know how you feel, truly." Or something like that.

How about sending him a card announcing the imminent arrival of your child? Or perhaps you could buy a baby outfit and leave it out for him to find. Or, if you really want to scare the crap out of him, come home from the store and tell him that either you got a series of tickets from the police, or that you were in a small accident and the car is terribly damaged, then tell him that you were just breaking the ice, that you are pregnant instead. He would probably be SO relieved that you were not in an accident or ticketed, that he would be overcome with joy from the news about his child.

I had to tell DH over the phone, since he was out of town and I couldn't stand to wait until he got home.
You could wrap up the HPT and slip it in his pocket. Or buy a small baby storybook about daddies. Maybe an empty baby picture frame that you leave in the bathroom.
Or you could arrange a signal you both would know about it.

I took my pregnancy test about 4 am and after it came back positive(and I checked to make sure I was reading it correctly)I went and woke him up to tell him LOL Probably not the best way, but I couldn't wait until he woke up :)
You could buy a pair of baby shoes or an outfit, wrap it up and give it to him with a note or a card :)

Relax,he will be fine with the news of a baby coming, unless he is a teen boy or if you guys never planned this. When you find out, go to craft store, buy a small plastic baby & put it in a desert after youv'e made an incredible dinner. When he sees it he will know. you want to know his reactions.

hello?! he may react not perfectly happy initially for a second or 2 NO MATTER HOW HAPPY HE IS! don't judge him for the unstoppable initial involuntary reaction! big picture here, did he say he will be happy, does he care for u and love u??? then omg jeeeezo if he freaks out for a second. its normal. don't forever hate him and scar yourself or the baby by harboring it if he isn't perfect on his response.
thats like getting mad at him that some supermodel type celebrety like jessica simpson walked in front of him and he for a SECOND had a reaction. THATS NORMAL.
anyways congrats on your baby!

I thought this was so creative when I read this somewhere:
A woman wanted to tell her in-laws in a creative way, so she put a hamburger roll ("bun") in her oven. When they came over she pretended that she had to go to the restroom or something and asked them to see if the supper she had in the oven was ready. It took them a minute to catch on, but then they were thrilled!

Make him a part of finding out. My husband and I tried for 9 years before I got pregnant and he was right there waiting with me for the results. When I saw it was positive and he saw my face he just started crying. I wouldn't have changed that experience for anything.

for our second kid, my wife text messaged me a picture of the test reading a positive.
Honestly, most guys won't admit being scared, the fact that he already admitted that would make me think he won't have as much fear when you actually do it. come up with a cool way you think he will like and no matter what it will be memorable.
