For about the last six months we've had problems with out fridge quitting on us. What happens is that it starts making a buzzing sound intermittently. Then the buzzing gets more and more frequent throughout the day until it just cuts off. We can then turn the breaker off that goes to the fridge for a few hours or a day or so, then turn the breaker back on and the fridge works fine again. But it always goes back to quitting in a few days or a week or so. Any idea on what the problem is with it? Thanks in advance!

That buzzing is a defrost timer. What is happening is the defrost timer causing trouble. The timer temporarly cuts oout the cooling, adds heat in reverse, melts the ice off and then reverts back to cooling when working properly.

You need to replace that timer. It is quite easily replace. It is located on the far left side facing the back of fridge near the floor in a small box. You can remove that box cover and it is supported in there with 2 screws and a couple plug inns. Take the old one to an Appliance Parts store and buy one for about $25.

Several things could be wrong. The buzzing sound can be a thermos protector. Or it could be a fan motor. It sounds like something is over heating. But for all we know it could be a loose connection in the wiring circuit. Lets go with over heating. The refrigerator has a black coil, either on the bottom [ must remove grill front bottom to see it] or on the back of it. It acts like a radiator on a car. Its purpose is to dissipate heat that was absorbed inside the fridge. Some are natural convection, others have a fan motor to force air across it. Observe the fan motor if so equip. Is it spinning properly? A big recommendation is to unplug the fridge and thoroughly clean the coil. With a brush such as a tooth brush and or vacuum cleaner. Dust and animal hair gets caught between the fins of the coil. Blocking air movement, causing it to over heat.Take care not to disturb the wiring or other components. Also don't bend the fins. Attach a long thin stick or tube to the tooth brush with duct tape or similar clamping for better reach. Beyond this a technician may be needed. Good luck.

When it stop running let me know I will start jogging so i can catch it. (smile). No seriously you need to see if you have a warranty on the fridge. If not call the manufactor who made it or who service the fridge. Also your power circuit or plug on the fridge may be worn out.

have you cleaned the dust out from under / behind it ? it could be just overheating if it's been awhile. fridges need plenty of air movement around them. you should pull them out and clean under and behind them once a year. hope this fixes it for ya.
