No. It's nice to have a rocking chair in the nursery.

Rocking chairs have generally been replaced with gliders. They rock like a rocking chair but the contraption on the bottom is more complicated and means that nothing can get stuck underneath the rocker, so they are safer. You can also lock them in position.
There are some beautiful ones around. Anywhere that sells nursery furniture will sell them. I bought one from John Lewis.
It's a good idea to have a comfy chair to nurse in.

I always wanted a rocking chair and I got one for my nursery. I love to rock the baby in it, but it's honestly not all that comfortable for nursing in.
I don't think it's dated.

I got a chair from Ikea, its not a proper rocking one. It was hard to get out of when feeding as I had a C-section but now my daughter is 18 months, its nice to sit with her and read a book together where it is quiet and sleepy! Or when she is having a bad night and won't sleep, its better than walking round the room! If you have a big enough room for one go for it. Who cares whether it is dated or not, it can be a nice addition to any nursery.

Also I brought a changing table for £50 from Mothercare just a woodern one with a shelf and mat on top and I still use it now.

A rocking chair is practically invaluable in a child's room. They're great from nursing, rocking little ones to sleep, reading, etc. I have one in my daughter's room. If you plan to use it from nursing it's very important that the mother tries it on for size, the arms of the chair should support her without pushing her arms/shoulders up uncomfortably which can interfere with nursing.

Would advise against a wooden rocking chair. Very uncomfortable for long periods of time with 10 pounds of dead-weight on your arms. I bought a small lay z boy (sp?) glider rocker/recliner and a medela nursing stool to put my feet up on. Best thing I ever bought. It costs a little more but I can see snuggling with my little boy to read stories in later in his room. Also- rockers to me spell pinched fingers from exploring babies/toddlers- ouch!

not too dated at all. I had no room for a nursing chair but would have loved to have one. So i may have one for the next baby as we are moving to a bigger house soon. Its a lovely idea.

It's about comfort. A rocking chair in the baby's room is wonderful. There will be many times when you are doing a nightly feeding that you will be much happier with one in there.
