The Declaration of Independence was written to list the grievances the Colonies had against the tyranny of King George III and to justify the attempt by the colonies to separate from England.

It was written as an explanation of why the colonists were separating themselves from England. It contains the charges against and the violations of England & the King against the peoples in the colonies.

Religious freedom was certainly one of the largest, although there were other reasons.

First of all the people who came to the New World came for a number of new reasons. Most of the people in the English colonies were English Subjects and thought they had same rights as the rest of English. After those rights were denyed the colonies decided toto make a new government. Thus the Declaration of Independence.
