You need both to get a job at the top. First, get your degree. Second, start working in an entry level position then you work your way up. I always find it amusing when kids out of college think they can just get a high level position right out of school.

Higher education is must for a better job because u r going to be a beginner. Looking at ur age one will ask u about the qualification, as the time goes and u get older and u want to change the job one will ask u what is the experience so the first step to get a good job is higher education.
I am advising thru my experience.

Its a combination. Its like a catch 22 you cannot gain experience without having a job, and you do not get a decent job without education or experience. So here is how it works
To get a Decet job - you need to have good education
If you have good education - you can get internships or Co-ops that count towards your experience.
Once you have that experience and Education you can land a decent job.
As an employer a hiring person would like to hire someone who knows and has experience dealing with similiar situation and job functions as the job requires so they will obviously hire some one with 2, 3 4 years of experience then someone who does not have any.
Its like doing an educated guess. If you are new to Investing would you invest in IBM, J&J, Colgate, Microsoft or some ABC company?
I think you would invest in the former then the later reason --
you are doing an educated guess. Human Beings dont like uncertainty so they will hire some one with experience.
But you cannot get experience without a job and to get the foot in the door you need some kind of education.
So Both are equally important and both complement each other.
You need Education to get a job which will give you Experience.

Each option has its advantages. Clearly there is no substitute for experience. However, by obtaining a college degree you not only give yourself a wider range of options career wise, but you can gain experience too.
As an example, getting a presentation or preparing a speech for a class is similar to tasks you will have to do when you find a job. Researching and organizing information is a valuable work skill you will learn in college. And a prospective employer will realize that.
Another thing to remember is nobody starts at the top. Everyone has to start somewhere. You may feel like your losing experience by going to school, but you're not.
I have a job that utilizes many of the skills I learned in college and combines my previous work experience, in my line of work the skills I learned in college are valuable assets.

dear u havent mentioned ur qualification.now a days experience is given more importance than the higher qualification.but that experience will promote u for only a few levels. at any pont of time u need to have a better qualification bcoz competetion would be more for for higher positions . so if u have a higher qualificcattion definiteely it will be an added advvantage in ur future.all the best.

It goes back to the old saying "You have to pay your dues." You can not expect to come out of college with a degree and no work experience. The degree opens some doors, but believe me you need to work during college as well. The degree alone does not bring you the big bucks. And you will have to be ready to start out some where and work you way through the ranks.
Short answer - both are needed to advance to higher level positions.

To get a job "at top level", normally BOTH are required. You get to a high level by getting experience at lower levels, where education can get you in the door.

Both count when you grow in your career.
Best option, after graduation, go for a job. As you gain experience on job, proceed with some professional course related to your job. Definitely you can accelerate your prospects to higher position.
Key is never stop learning.
