Could be 'frozen shoulder'. Do have have restricted movement, pain on rotating arm? Go back to your GP, if necessary a cortisone/steroid injection into the joint might help.

I have had the same problem for over a year and my Gp kept telling me I had carpal tunnel syndrome(wrists) and that the pain was radiating up from there. After waiting for a nerve induction test on the NHS for 15 months I went private and had ultra sound scans which showed a lot of fluid around the bicep tendons and I was told that the pain was radiating down my arms. This was treated with steroid injections into the site at two week intervals. They take up to 30 days to work completely but I can now sleep right through the night. Private treatment very expensive but SO worth it as I had been living on co-codomol 30 which was not good. Incidentally, the consultant I saw privately said I also have carpal tunnel syndrome. Its a repetative strain injury but now that I have got rid of the pain in my shoulders my wrists are not so bad and I can wait for NHS treatment (I think)

Sounds like it might be a posture or neck problem. Suggest you go back to the GP and ask him to look again. Drugs such as Diclofenac can help. In the meantime, look at how you sit at your desk, whether your feet are raised, whether your monitor is in the right position, also how you lie in bed at night.

I know someone who had this and he was told it was a trapped nerve. But maybe you should go back to doc just to make sure.
