Yes, other countries did help. France sent over supplies and money. And it is necessary to help other countries only if they are already a poor country, such as those countries that were hit during the tsunami. We shouldn't just think of ourselves.

There is almost no way to help America from abroad, largely because the U.S. government effectively prevents it through import and immigration regulations. In the past, people tried, but were told no and eventually gave up trying.

Say, someone wanted to come in and help search for victims under the rubble using trained search dogs. They would be told to quarantine the search dogs for 30 days before taking them to work. In the past, Switzerland and Japan (both of which have highly trained search dog forces, the former in its Alpine service, the latter, in the fire departments) inquired if they could help, but were repeatedly told off.

And the list goes on... Foreign rescue vehicles would not be allowed into the U.S., because they may or may not meet U.S. specifications. Almost no foreign rescue helicopters (and a lot of them are made in Britain, Germany, France, or Russia) are certified to fly in the U.S., so good luck bringing in one of those.

Visa regime is not the most conducive, either. Suffice it to say that the number one international aid agency, the International Red Cross, only has 24 staffers in the U.S. Compare that to 41 in Peru or 290 in Colombia...

Many countries sent a help. But many times that help is refused by US government for unknown reasons... Maybe to show to the world that US can cope? Or maybe to make people think that US only help others, and others never help US...

I really don't believe that any countries helped when we had the hurricane and if they did we did not hear about it. I sure don't remember ever hearing anything.

Canada sent naval ships with supplies, military personnel, electrical line workers, firemen, paramedics and builders. Canadians also donated much money.
