Most windows 98 computers will meet the basic requirements to upgrade to XP. All that you need is to purchase the Windows XP operating system disc. On the back of the package it tells you the system requirements and if your computer meets those requirements then you are fine to install. Once you insert the disc into your computer it will give you instructions on how to proceed.

First off you do NEED to upgrade to a higher version of Windows.. thats why nothing is working for you on your current system.
You'll need to copy all your information onto disks or you will lose it forever. It's not that hard.. just download the free version of Winzip and http://www.winzip.com and select "Create Zip file" for all the files you want to save onto a disk.. them just create a disc.

You can get Windows Xp anywhere like WalMart, Best Buys, Curcuit City, Target. The Windows Xp still runs about $89-$90. You can check websites online to get an idea.

Your computer will be able to handle the upgrade.. it's nothing to worry about. Just save all your files you want to save.
Xp will install it's self with no problem, just follow the options it gives you... it can take up to an hour to 2 hours to install so don't worry.

Good Luck...!

check on ebay for the upgrade to XP.
XP can usually run with minimal high grade components, you can check what the requirements are on ebay for computers and match with what you have. Good Luck!
