You need to enable file sharing on both computers. You can limit sharing to specific folders on a computer and also limit the kind of access, such as read or write, that's allowed. Run the Network Wizard to enable file and folder sharing. If you have different versions of Windows, you may run into problems.

First, run the Network Setup wizard on both computer, and make sure that you have opted to allow file sharing.
Now, if each computer has a firewall, go into it, and search through it to ensure that it is not blocking any computers on your LAN. (optional)
Find a folder you want to share, and right click on it. Go to Properties, and on the Sharing and Security tab, check the options to share the folder. Enter a share name, and select whether or not to allow network users to change files.
To find that shared folder from another computer, go to My Network Places on that computer and it should appear there as " on ". Double click it and all the files will be there.
To share a printer, go to the printers and faxes folder and find the printer you want to share. Right click on it, and select "Sharing...".
Now, you can adjust settings for it and share it.
Go the other computer you want to print from, remotely. Go to "add a printer" on Printers and Faxes, and select the network printer option, when it asks if the printer is local. Now, choose to browse for the printer, and select the computer to which the printer is attached in the network browser that you are given. The printer should be listed. Finish the wizard, and begin printing away.
If you want to have easy access to a certain network folder that you use quite often, go to My Computer and on the Tools menu select "Map Network Drive..." Now, you can select a network folder and a drive letter that it will appear as whenever you open My Computer or enter that drive letter.
I hope this all works out well for you.
