I want to know how many women had a blood sugar level of 150 and had a second test which came back negative... what are my chances of having GD if my first test came back with a level of 150?

I had a Best Answer on this somewhere and I can't find it because I have tons of them and I'm too lazy to page through them all.

So, the answer to your question is: I had a BS level of 151 on the 1 hr test and on the 3 hr test I tested fine on all levels. I see many pregnant women who have similar results and they are just fine.

First of all, the 1 hr glucose test is not particularly accurate. You've gotten up and had a big breakfast of orange juice and pancakes then gone in and drank and bottle of sugar water. Of course your pregnant body is going to have trouble with it, pregnant women's glucose tolerance is impaired but this does not mean they have diabetes or will be diabetic in the future.

The 3 hr test is the most accurate, where you follow a lower carb diet for awhile, fast for 12 hrs, have blood drawn then drink the sugary drink (even more sugary than before), then have blood drawn several more times and hourly intervals. This is a much more accurate estimation of whether you have the kind of glucose intolerance that needs treatment. Even still, if you are what is called a "diet controlled" gestational diabetic, meaning your sugars are fine with just a dietary change, you are still fine, this does not mean you will be diabetic in the future. However, if you have very high levels on the 3 hr and your sugars cannot be controlled with diet and you are insulin dependent when pregnant, there is a higher likelihood that you will be comes diabetic later in life.

So, to answer your question, I would bet when you take the 3 hr glucose test, you will be just fine. Follow the diet they give you and the instructions, make sure you fast for 12 hrs prior to the test. Flunking the first one is common, don't worry.

On my glucose tolerance test I scored a 151. I went back for the second test and passed with flying colors. Dr. said that a lot of women fail their first test and pass their second. Good Luck to ya

Pretty high. It should never go above 140 during pregnancy
