Me and my daughter were sitting in the dining room talking when suddenly there was an extremely strong smell of sulfur in the air, as if someone just struck a match. It lasted for about 10 mins. No one here smokes and I don't believe there are any matches in my house.
I vaguely recall something about smells when ghosts are present. If you know anything about this, please explain. Thank you.

Spirits can release smells that is associated with them and play music an effect anything electrical.
You either have an earth bound spirit living in the house just tell them they are dead and to move on to the light keep saying when you have the smell around
You see they think they are a live and that you are the spirit haunting them have you watched the movie Others that will explain it for you.
The other reason could be someone from your relations that have passed over has come back to check in on you and are releasing the smell to see if you remember them.

Sulfur is present in lots of things around your house -- batteries, detergent, etc. It's also used in phosphoric fertilizer. Any of those things heated could have caused the strong smell.
To answer your question, yes the phenomena of ghosts are often associated with the strong smell of both sulfur and rotten eggs.
But I'd check if any neighbors had any fertilizer put in. =)

I don't know how this would be interpreted in other more serious supernatural ways, but in Greek/Roman mythology sulfur and brimstone was the home of the god of the smith, Vulcan. He was married to the Greek/Roman goddess of beauty and love Aphrodite/Venus. Perhaps this is a sign of a love filled season of your life because the legends say that although Vulcan was crippled and not the most handsome of the gods, he loved his beautiful wife with all of his heart, and worked hard to earn her love in return. All in all, happy times in the future.
(I know someone will be skeptical about this, but I doubt you are a diehard skeptic because you asked this question didn't you?)

First of all let me say ghosts are not evil nor bad, they are friendly. That probably was a ghost, or spirit (same thing). It won't hurt you. One day me and my mates were watching a scary ghost thing when the computer shut off. It shut off at the part where a ghost was about to kill or choke a man. We turned the computer on, and it turned off again. My mate who is really into ghost because she lives behind a graveyard, says the ghost don't want us to think they are bad. Don't worry about your ghost, it won't hurt you.

You may wish to check your daughter's room and see if she has matches hidden somewhere. Always rule out the regular causes of phenomenon first before assuming supernatural causes.
