Tell him that you appreciate the gift, but you don't pull off the style or color and that you don't really have anything in orange to go with them. Then be slick by telling him, "hey, wanna go back to the shoe store so we can select a pair of shoes that i can pull off and that go with many of my outfits?" He would be honored to help you find something you like! It works every time!

I don't think you can ever tell someone you don't like their gift without hurting their feelings even just a little. But you can be sure this is not the first time he struck out on a gift for a girl.

Just try to be really sincere about how much you appreciate that he got you a gift. Humor is always good too.

If you didn't say anything and never wore the shoes he would figure it out, and wish you would have told him.

Really is no way to do so. But you may want to be nice and say dad I really thank you for the sneakers, but I just don't seem to like them. Can we take them back and both of us look for ones I like. I really hate to see you spend money for something I won't wear.
At least by doing this you told him as nicely as you could that you don't like them and want his help to look for another pair. That might make him feel better by asking for his help.

Say something like "these will be perfect when I'm painting/hiking!" and use them in situations when they're sure to get gunked up and you don't want your other shoes to get messy.

Remember, shoes that you have no emotional attachment to DO have their uses in the long run, protecting you other shoes!

Email him a link to this page.

Dear Dad,

She intensely dislikes the shoes and would appreciate a chance to choose a pair more to her liking. Let her do it or you'll just watch your money sit in the closet.

A concerned Mom

PS. Thanks for the thought.

your saying that you cant be honest and tell your dad the truth ?? im more than happy to hear the truth coming from my daughters when it comes to me buying stuff for them that they really dont care for... so just say " hey dad, would it be cool to go look at another pair of shoes " ?

the best way is to tell him the truth
one lie will lead to another and he's bound to find out
ask him if he still has the reciept and go back to the store
then spend time with him and remind him how much you love him ♥

Just wear them somewhere and get them really dirty, like wearthem in the water and then kick around in some dirt, keep them as your daggy shoes.

Are they the wrong size? the wrong color.. or the wrong brand name that makes you hate them?
If its the wrong size or color just ask him if he has the receipt so you can exchange them. Dad's take honesty better than Mom's do.
