computers have a way of slowing down when you least expect it,but nine times out of ten itsnormally spyware that will be causing the slowness of your p.c
i know first hand as i repair p.c,s as a hobby and most of the problems i find are due to users lack of understanding of spyware
i even went to one house were the guy thought that zonealarm was a anti-virus and that it was all he needed, even though the security alert was telling him his computer was at risk
avg is a excellent anti-virus,so as long as its kept up to date you should be fine with your anti-virus,but you also need at least 2 anti spyware programs to back up the anti-virus and strenghten up your security
first i would recommend spybot(http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html),just install this and make sure you update and imunize it before you run a scan, and then you need to "fix selected problems",you will be suprised how many spyware you will probally find
then you need to download windows defender(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en),this is another excellent program but scans behind the desktop and will only alert you if any malware is found, combined with spbot these should first clean you p.c and then protect your p.c from future spyware attacks
finally it may also be time to think about upgrading your ram(memory),for example you can buy a 512mb ddr ram memory module for less than £35 sp although its not that expensive, the increase in speed and performance of your p.c is well worth the money
i hope this has helped you
good luck

First thing you do should be use the Anti Virus to check if there is something wrong going on in the PC. If you find nothing, Think of your Connection and give it a call to your internet services provider to check up whether a problem of overpowering in the region has been taking place. It might be this the problem and, if so, they are the ones to kindky help you sort out the problem you have of PC slowness through the phone. If you are running a Windows XP, you have the option of accessing the page of Windows Live One Care and run their program with complete check up and defragmentation of disks applying the best free tools available as "doctor's diagnosis" for your PC and and, after this, just wait and see! It has always worked on my troubled PC, for more than once, and I bet it will work for you too!!

Well long long have you had that computer for? If it's like really old then it's going to slow down over time. Another thing might be is that your might have too much stuff on your computer, and that things are trying to upload so that could be something as well. Just make sure that you not running like 20 different thing, only a few, and if that's not it then i'm not sure, but just try that first.

Usually, too many programs are running, or even Windows uses tools which will never get touched.
Go to Start, run, and type in 'msconfig'
Select tab Start-Up
Untick any programs that you will not use. This could include QuickTimeTask, nvtray, etc.
Reboot PC, see if that helps. Note that you can always re-enable programs if you use them, and got removed by accident.
Also, remove rubbish off the system - CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com)

try a defrag and see if it helps. to defrag: press start, point to all programs, accessories, system tools and finally disk defragmenter. On the defragmenter select your C drive at the top and then click on the defragment button. This should free up space on your hard drive and make pc run faster. Also make sure you do a full system scan often with your avg to make sure all is ok.

It could be a software conflyct how ever the best way is to think back befor the problem occured, did you install any software or did you download any thing from the internet.
Most important is is your virus software up to date it may be that something has sliped passed your scanning software run a virus scan to check for viruses and spyware.

make sure you've got no other antivirus programme running on your pc, i had one included in my internet supply, then loaded norton, buggered my pc completely.
also try disc defragment from your start menu, can help speed things up.
