I just got a new job, in an office setting with business attire. I want to know what is ok as far as dresses, shirts ( is sleeveless ok), capri dress pants and so on. And shoes... is open toed ok? I know the basics such as no cleavage, no shorts or short skirts and tank tops. Also I am a girl.

it varies from office to office. I would go in your first day, wearing like a sweater and some nice pants, closed toed shoes...look and see what everyone there is wearing and check the dress code. Or you can always ask your new supervisor if open toed shoes or sleeveless shirts are allowed. I've worked in very strict offices but in my last office job, most of the people there had facial piercings and were sleeved with tattoos. It really depends...ask some questions.

Ok, all offices are different, some more casual, sosme more formal. If it is truely business attire you wear a suit all the tie, that's it, skirt or pants suit, but that is true business attire. Ok, if you are at the point where you can get away with being a bit more you, just make sure that whatever you wear is very basic. You don't want to draw too much attention to yourself. In the summer it is certainly ok to go sleeveless as long as nothing shows out at the sides. Capri dress pants would work if the place is not too up-tight and they didn't look like jeans. As long as they are made of a good material you should be ok. Keep skirts at a good length, don't wear your pants too tight, all of this is basic nature. AS far as shoes, sandles should be fine. It used to be that you had to wear stockings to work, but I don' think that holds anymore. Just look like you are going to work and not a rav and you will be fine.

Check out what your co-workers are wearing. I wouldnt wear open toe shoes until its nice and warm. If its something that you would wear outside of work (besides a nice date) then it probably wouldnt work if the dress code is "business attire". Thats a good general rule. I think the dressy capris sound good. Wrap dresses are always safe and figure flattering! Sleeveless is probably OK as long as you have the bottom half dressed conservatively. It also depends on where you live(South, North, etc.). You can always cover up a cute sleeveless shirt with a cardigan or blazer.

www.oldnavy.com has a "wear to work" ideas section. The wardrobe ideas are good even if you dont buy clothes from there.

So funny becuase I to just got a new job and it's business professional. I am use to working at a business casual office so I'm not sure what I can wear. I went to Forth and Towne and bought a bunch of clothes hopefully they are appropiate. Like I'm not sure if dress top and dress slack are ok or if i have to wear jacket at all times?? On my first day I am wearing a black suit. It's feminne but very professional black jacket with skirt. I'm wearing pantyhose because I'm told that I have to wear those and some black pumps. I'm wearing a cream top under my jacket that does have short sleeves in case it gets hot. I figure for the 1st week I will go in all suits and figure out what the other women are wearing. Good luck!

Sleeveless is not ok. Never expose your arm or toes in an office environment. More like an over the knee length pencil skirt, dress pants, 3/4 or long sleeve button up shirt and casual jacket .

Don't wear shorts. Trousers should be trousers, not cropped. Skirts shouldn't go above the knee. Short sleeved shirts are OK, sleevless ones are not. Open toes shoes are OK as long as they're quite conservative ones.
